Polysemy isa universal feature of all languages, including the English language. InEnglish as in any language, any given word may have a number of meanings in differentsituations. A single word may express not only one meaning, but often a remarkablevariety of meanings. One of the most striking features of the English languageis the possibility of using a word as different parts of speech withoutchanging its form. Not infrequently there is a difference between the meaningsof such words.
