 Take it for example, the first lesson inUnit one, Book one is about the time when the new students first meet, and theydo not know each other. So a teacher can introduce himself first, such as:“Hello, everyone, nice to meet you here. Now I will introduce myself to you. Myname is Arthur. I like playing basketball, so, it makes me much stronger; Ilike playing chess, so, it makes me more clever; and I like reading books, so,‘reading makes one perfect’” (王冰晶,2002:4). During the introduction, the teacher should use the newvocabularies and sentence structures together with a vivid expression and suitablegestures as possibly as he can. He smiles when he says hello to the class; heshakes hands with some students saying “Nice to meet you”; he writes name downon the blackboard; he imitates the action of dribbling and shooting at thebasketball, playing chess and turning pages to explain his hobby. After hisintroduction, the teacher can create a circumstance for the students topractice: “Mary and Jack are new classmates. They are walking together in thestreet, and they meet one of Jack's old friends, Meimei. Then Meimei and Maryare introduced to each other by Jack”. 4.2.2 UsingGames in English Teaching

“Games like songs, aremost welcomed by students. They can help and encourage students to sustaintheir interest in learning, help to create contexts in which the language isuseful and meaningful(袁士朴,1998:475).” That is to say,games can provide intense and meaningful practice of language. In games,students respond to the content. If they are amused, challenged, intrigued orsurpassed, the content is clearly meaningful to them. Games can be found togive practice in all the skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), andfor many types of communication (e.g. encouraging, criticizing, agreeing,explaining). In order to enhance fun in English class and evoke the students’curiosity,teacherscan use the way of playing games to warming up.

For example, in the JEFC Book 1A Unit4, you cantake out a bag and say, “Guess. What’s in the bag?” The students will guess, “Isit a…?” Because the question is very easy, you can give the students below averagethe chance to question. Then you take out the bag and once more question, “Isit a…?” All the students will answer, “Yes, it is.” Or “No, it isn’t.” Youshould praise the students. This is not only practice dialogue but also raiseall the students’ interest in learning English.

The teacherscannot only focus on playing, but the teaching objectives and contents.Secondly, games should face all of the students. Thirdly, games should bewell-chosen, new and different. Finally, every game has a rule,so the teachers should make the rules clearly by explaining or demonstratingbefore playing. It’s very important.
