Englishreading is a very important aspect of students’ general language competence andit is critical in students’ studies. So, it is necessary and essential forstudents to read. Reading is one of the most important ways to get information.It is hard for us to imagine what life would be if we could not read. We alwaysneed to read assignments in different subjects. Reading comprehension is also avery crucial and difficult part in English test. In English test, readingcomprehension occupies a very significant place. However, the time given tostudents to read is limited, so reading comprehension may be the most difficultpart for most of   students inthe test paper. If students want to get a high mark in the test, they shouldtry their best to do reading comprehension well. If students read inaccurately,they will fail to understand some of the information and ideas they have read.If students read slowly, the other parts in the test paper will be affected. Students’ability to do read comprehension rapidly and accurately depends upon carefulinstruction and purposeful practice. Usually, it is hard for students toimprove their reading abilities. Theother reason is that improve fast reading skills is very difficult forstudents. This paper will introduce four fast reading skills:previewing, skimming, scanning and inferring and how they will be applied in anexamination.
