http://www.paper51.com

It is well-known that translation involves language as wellas culture. As good translators, they should familiarize themselves withforeign culture as well as the culture of their own countries. As foreignlanguage learners, the key for them to understand the text deeply is whetherthey can understand the foreign language well under the cultural context. As weknow, there are quite a few vehicles that contain many cultural meanings inChinese language and English language. So the correct translation that we havementioned above is inevitably involved in translating vehicle under thecultural context. In this paper, the author cites many examples of vehicletranslation and then sums up several skills about how to translate vehicle indifferent cultural contexts. It is also expected that this thesis cancontribute to foreign language learners for learning the translation ofvehicle.

copyright paper51.com

English language has virtually become the most important toolof international communication. With the development of Chinese economy, it isbecoming more crucial for Chinese people to participate in the internationalcommunication. As a result, translation of Chinese-English and English-Chinesebecomes crucial, too. And there has had many views about translation. In thispaper, the author focuses on the translation of vehicle. paper51.com

As we all know, people are in the habit of using comparisonto achieve the goal of making language more vivid and imaginable, such asviewing “pig” as a symbol of people who eat too much but indolently;considering “bull” as an emblem of a man who has great strength; regarding“fox” as an indication of a person who possesses the qualities of crafty, foxyand leery. As a general rule, comparison is so concrete and imaginable that itcan be apprehended and accepted more easily by readers. However, manycomparisons are not so easy to understand for both Chinese and English people. Forinstance, in China,“dragon” is a symbol of emperor, stately and solemn. However, it is viewed asan incarnation of evil in English. Another example is “lion”. English peopleusually use it to describe a ferocious and brave man. Nevertheless, in China, peoplewould rather use “tiger” when they want to express the same meaning. What ismore, “cat” is a kind of docile and tractable animal in the mind of Chinesepeople. On the contrary, English people use “cat” as vehicle to picture aspiteful or unpleasant woman. Certainly, it is no doubt that Chinese languageand English language have differences in many instances. To be more specific, they have differences in culture. What is the cause that calls forth thediversities of vehicle? How to translate these vehicles from both Englishlanguage and Chinese language? Before these are considered, the correlationbetween culture and language should be viewed firstly.
